Burn me bright

Burn Me Bright
Let’s paint the sky orange
in a sequin magic sequence…
A shower to sparkle
coconut skin scandals
hotly glistening,
hearts quaking, melting streets
where our concrete romance
throws flames towards sun’s creosote stars.
Burn me bright,
burn me   b  r  i   g   h   t,
burn me.

The Waste Land Revisited

For my creative writing seminar the individual assignment/project was a tricky headache and this was mostly my fault because of all the poems in all the world I went for T.S. Eliot’s precious little thing called The Waste Land (a 433 line colossus of a poem) to mimic/reinterpret (sort of) into a modern piece of [...]

A Product of My Mania

I may or may not actually like this piece, I’ll make my mind up in a few weeks.
Shedding Skin
The phoenix I shed
fires a silver stream
of celebratory misery
in a burning bush
fevering my eyelids,
torture tastes better
than these words
nerves
time-bomb
t   i  c   k   i   n  g
take me with you.
Pulpit, heart quit
your tantalizing tease,
I’m a native to
this mantle plume.

A Found Poem

All right, so in my crazy/sexy/cool writing seminar we have these tasks that basically boil down to theiving other people’s words and whole lines from their individual texts. It’s a weird balance between creating “new” art that belongs to you(since it has been said that everything we write is simply re-writing stories already told anyhow) [...]

Smooth and Rough

In my creative writing seminar we have been crafting a party pack of poetry, a task I’m relatively unaccustomed to, and so here are a few of my early attempts at writing poetry.
Summer For Sale
Summer contents
spills contradiction
a watercolor storm
of wayward shivers
a kiss, repeating remember.
It could be tender conquest
in tack and tumble
when your fingers,
clang like [...]

Someday I might kick myself

To commemorate my (insert any synonym of the adjective “idiotic” here) decision to drop my marketing major, here is some poetry*!!!!!
Yes, someday I might kick myself, but just promise that if you see me living in a paper structure built out of my loan statements that you will at the very least say hello.
*ummm, scroll [...]

Ruminations

Often times my desk/workspace is fairly representative of the state of my mind and the path taken by my thoughts; it is a chaotic mess, a sprawl of notes, memories, ideas, images and bits and pieces meant to inspire. Try as I might to clean it and put it together into some recognizably organized state, [...]

Supposed Synopsis

I’m not quite sure what to say about my novel now that it is near completion (current word count: 44,499), but I have done a spectacularly poor job at keeping my blog up-to-date with such information and excerpts pertaining to the wretched block of work, and, so, I thought it worthwhile to copy and paste [...]

I’ve solved a problem

I’ve decided to write a novel. Deja vu anyone?
As a result of my less than stimulating course work at Charles University I’ve felt quite unchallenged and unproductive. My brain is wasting away because, aside from my pleasure reading, it is running idle.
For those unfamiliar with my personality, I really, really can’t stand it when things [...]

300 Words

I’ve been assigned a lot of 300 word pieces lately and from that developed a frustration to be precise and brief.
Most of what I’ve been writing in recent months has been about music and, as much as I do enjoy writing on the topic, I’ve grown to greatly miss the simple pleasure of writing short [...]
